SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of medicine, namely, to ophthalmology. In order to identify rod monochromatism, the child is presented with test images of the first and second types in the form of silhouette images against a white background using the HSL colour model. The first type of test images includes four reference achromatic images with L 20% and four test images with the colour characteristic H 180° - blue, S 100% and L 20%. The second type of test images includes four reference achromatic images with L 50% and four test images with the colour characteristic H 180° - blue, S 100% and L 50%. If the child is unable to differentiate between blue silhouette test images only in test images of the first type, incomplete rod monochromatism is identified. If the child is unable to differentiate between blue silhouette test images in test images of the first and second types, complete rod monochromatism is identified.

EFFECT: invention facilitates the identification of rod monochromatism in young children.
