FIELD: veterinary medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a ready-to-use veterinary composition for injection containing sodium cefovecin, a biocompatible oil and a non-aqueous solvent. The biocompatible oil is a dicaprylate/dicaprate of propylene glycol in an amount from 58 to 68, wt. %, of the total mass of the composition, and the non-aqueous solvent is benzyl benzoate in an amount of 12 to 25, wt. %, of the total mass of the composition. The invention also relates to a method for treating bacterial infection in an animal in need by introducing an effective amount of cefovecin into a ready-to-use composition. The use of a veterinary composition for injection for the preparation of a drug for the treatment of bacterial infection in an animal is also claimed.

EFFECT: invention provides a composition of sodium cefovecin, which has a higher viscosity at low shear forces, thereby minimizing particle deposition and tracking of suspended cephalosporin, and having a lower viscosity at high shear force to maximize suspensibility and suitability for syringing.
