FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for contact-free measurement of the linear dimensions of an object and can be used to determine the anthropometric dimensions of human body parts in the process of virtual selection and ordering of clothes in on-line services and in the production thereof. Method for measuring the linear dimensions of an object, including creating a set of photographs of the measured object from different angles, e.g., from above and from the side, to determine the width and length of the object, respectively, while placing a reference object with previously known dimensions and shape in the frame, wherein said reference object is placed so as to be able to read the dimensions from the photo; processing the images by a computer algorithm; calculating the actual size of the measured object, wherein the resulting images are transmitted electronically to a server to the computer algorithm, followed by consecutively processing each image using computer vision algorithms and an artificial neural network; wherein the pixel mask and the contour of the reference object are found, the contour is approximated with a polygon, then the pixel mask and the contour of the measured object are found, the extreme points of the contour of the measured and reference objects are determined, followed by finding the physical dimensions of the measured object using a projective transformation, with account for perspective distortions and based on the found visible dimensions of the measured object.
EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of contact-free measurement of the linear dimensions, increase in the speed of obtaining measurement results due to the use of computer vision algorithms and neural network technologies analysing the images without human involvement in the process of determining the dimensions of the measured object, thereby preventing errors potentially caused by human inattention.
