SUBSTANCE: method for measuring the range is based on highlighting railroad track rails on the image of the contour preparation; performing a projective transformation to compensate for projective distortions; selection on the resulting image without distortion of the vertical lines corresponding to the images of the rails; search for the lines corresponding to them on the image of the contour preparation; finding the pixel coordinates of the points corresponding to the contact points of the wheel pair of the car and the track rails; calculating the distance to the car by solving the equations of projective geometry with a priori known width of the railway track L.

EFFECT: reducing the amount of calculations required to estimate the distance to the car from the image from the camera.
