FIELD: image data processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of image processing, in particular, to a method and apparatus for determining the illumination of an image of the face. Technical result of the claimed technical solution is achieved by said solution involving obtaining a recognisable image of the face and a three-dimensional template grid of the face; obtaining a reconstructed grid model of the face by deforming the three-dimensional template grid of the face based on the image of the face; determining the brightness of the characteristic points corresponding to the key characteristic points in the images of the face, based on the positions of deformation in the reconstructed grid model of the face; and determining the information on illumination of the image of the face, based on the corresponding ratio between the set brightness of the key characteristic points and the illumination thereof and on the brightness of the characteristic points corresponding to the key characteristic points in the image of the face.

EFFECT: reduced error in determining the illumination at key characteristic points in different images of the face.
