BOREHOLE PLANNING USING A GEOMECHANICAL SHIFT Russian patent published in 2022 - IPC E21B44/00

Abstract RU 2779040 C1

FIELD: computing technology.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a method and a computer system for visualising the trajectory of a borehole. Method includes obtaining geomechanical and geological data for an underground area; obtaining the initial trajectory of the borehole, including the borehole path and reference points, wherein each reference point has one or more intervals of the borehole associated therewith. Analysing the stability of the wellbore along the borehole trajectory using the geomechanical and geological data, wherein the analysis of the stability of the wellbore includes identifying a subset of intervals of the borehole path along the borehole trajectory as at risk of instability. Calculating the geomechanical shift for one or more reference points along the borehole trajectory, wherein the geomechanical shift is calculated as a derivative of the stability of the wellbore at one or more reference points. Modifying one or more reference points and one or more associated intervals of the borehole path using the geomechanical shift to generate a modified borehole trajectory. Visualising the calculated geomechanical shift, modified borehole trajectory, or both in a digital model of the underground area.

EFFECT: minimised risk of rock collapse into the borehole and the risk of loss of drilling mud, and/or reduction in the density of drilling mud for the purpose of improving the productivity of drilling.
