FIELD: metal working.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for hardening the surface of a part. Method includes creating alternating hardened and non-hardened rectilinear sections, wherein the hardened rectilinear sections are formed by forming a nitrided layer while heating by a laser beam in a nitrogen atmosphere, wherein said sections are positioned perpendicular to the vector of the friction force created on the working surface of the part; followed by rolling the part, forming a relied in the form of grooves in the non-hardened sections.
EFFECT: increase in the wear resistance of a geared wheel-type part.
