SUBSTANCE: device and method for transplanting seedlings relates to forestry, including targeted forest distribution and afforestation. The method consists in the fact that wild plants are used for planting: seedlings that have grown in natural conditions, in adjacent areas of the forest with soil composition similar to that of the soil, subject to thinning or cutting down. At the same time, digging and planting is carried out by a universal manual device on the restored forest area without preliminary preparation of the soil composition with subsequent compaction of the soil. The device includes levers connected to each other pivotally by two handles in their upper part, and an actuator in the form of two closing and opening knives made in the form of semi-cylinders rigidly connected to vertical levers that are connected below the middle to each other through a bridge of four plates with an axis of rotation. The semi-cylinders are equipped with a foot stop for pressing the actuator into the ground. When digging out seedlings, the device is installed on top of them, its actuator is buried, slightly compressed, the seedlings with a clod of earth are shaken until they are separated from the ground, vertically removed together with the clod and placed in a cassette. After that, the seedlings are transferred to the planting site, the wells are dug with the above device, inserted into the wells and compacted using soil extracted from the well.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to improve the survival rate of seedlings.
