SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry of high-molecular compounds, more specifically, to a method for producing a super-crosslinked polystyrene. Method includes the interaction of a copolymer of styrene and divinylbenzene swollen in an organic solvent with a monochlorodimethyl ether or methylal in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst. The process is conducted in the presence of an acid chlorohydride in an amount sufficient for crosslinking the methanol released in the reaction.

EFFECT: development of a method for producing a super-crosslinked polystyrene, allowing the use of not only monochlorodimethyl ether, but also a non-toxic methylal for crosslinking a styrene copolymer with divinylbenzene, reducing the catalyst consumption, the volume of washing wastewater, and eliminating the destruction of the initial polymer; the super-crosslinked polystyrene can be used for producing highly effective sorbents.
