SUBSTANCE: heating unit for use in aerosol generating system (10) has part (24) for liquid storage, intended for retention of liquid aerosol forming substrate (26), wherein the heating unit contains electric heater (30) for heating liquid aerosol forming substrate to form aerosol and capillary body (27) for transfer of liquid aerosol forming substrate from the part for liquid storage of the aerosol generating system to the electric heater. Electric heater (30) is located on the outer surface of the capillary body, and it contains a heating layer containing porous sheet (33) of electroconductive material. Porous sheet (33) is profiled to form a set of recesses (34) on its lower surface (35) to retain liquid aerosol forming substrate due to capillary effect, wherein at least section of each of the set of recesses (34) is located at a distance from outer surface (27a) of the capillary body in a perpendicular direction.
