FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to the foundry production of large steel castings. The method includes natural convection mixing of modifier based on vanadium nitride and melt. As a modifier based on vanadium nitride, nanodispersed vanadium nitride powder clad with nickel is used, which is applied by spraying onto the inner surface of a casting mold made by the alpha-set process in an amount of 0.025–0.06 wt.% of the total mass of the melt poured into the mold.
EFFECT: invention provides improvement of mechanical properties by using an effective modifier of simple composition.
