SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of metallurgy. The method for modifying steel includes introducing into the steel melt a modifier based on titanium nitride, the particles of which are clad with a protector metal, which is nickel. Tableted powder of titanium nitride nanoparticles clad with nickel in the amount of 0.006-0.009 wt.% of the weight of the cast steel is loaded into the pouring ladle before pouring the steel.

EFFECT: improved mechanical properties of steel due to uniform distribution of modifiers in the melt volume.
