FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: orthosis for maintenance of the joint, adapted for the thumb and/or the wrist, contains the main part, an elastically deformable plate, and a device for inelastic tightening of the main part and a proximal part of the plate around a proximal part of the limb. The main part is made in the form of a coupling of elastic material with the possibility of embracing the joint and distal and proximal parts of the limb from both sides of the joint. The main part contains an opening for passage of the proximal part of the limb and an opening for passage of the distal part of the limb. The elastically deformable plate is located in a pocket formed in the main part and made according to sizes of the plate. The distal part of the plate is retained around the limb with the main part only. The plate is made so that the plate has a cross-section occupying more than 30% of a perimeter of the underlying limb, for at least 50% of a length of the main part along parts of the limb, including the part of the limb closed by the tightening device. The plate is made of material with Young modulus of 5-10 MPa, whereas material forming the main part has a rigidity value smaller by one order of magnitude.

EFFECT: invention allows for withstanding weight of a distal part of the limb, starting from the joint, without creating inconvenience, even if orthosis has to be worn for a long period of time.
