FIELD: cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of cutting inserts for cutting tools. The cutting insert of a tool for machining a workpiece by cutting includes a main cutting edge, a chamfer, and a chip groove. The chip groove is mirror-symmetrical with respect to the plane of symmetry oriented orthogonally to the main cutting edge. The flute is located below the chamfer plane and does not intersect it. The cutting insert provides in its cutting area such a chip shape geometry that allows you to perform both full and partial cuts, as well as the processing of bridges. Thanks to the formation of the chip groove provided in the cutting area and the presence of a negative chamfer, very short chips can be obtained in all three machining options.
EFFECT: increasing the reliability of the technological process and increasing the service life of the tool.
