FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: area of application: magnetic powder testing of pipes. Substance of the invention consists in adjusting and testing the sensitivity according to the standard factory sample; treating the pipe surface with magnetic powder suspension; subjecting the pipe surface to ultraviolet irradiation, followed by non-contact longitudinal magnetisation of the outer and inner pipe surface; generating and processing an image, wherein the sensitivity is adjusted and tested according to the standard factory sample prior to the test of the pipe batch, the non-contact transverse magnetisation of the outer and inner pipe end surfaces is provided by a rectified field, the image of the tested pipe surface is generated simultaneously with pouring the suspension and magnetising, the image of the outer pipe surface is generated using linear cameras, the cameras are focused automatically by moving a vertical carriage, and the image of the inner pipe surface is generated using a contact image sensor, wherein the ultraviolet radiation is focused in a line along the row of the contact sensor matrix.

EFFECT: possibility of highly efficient and reliable testing of the inner and outer end surfaces of ferromagnetic pipes, including small-diameter pipes, with high sensitivity.
