FIELD: catalysts.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a composition of a multilayer supported catalyst, a method for its preparation and a method for the production of methane oxidative condensation (MOC) olefins. The composition is characterized by the general formula AaZbEcDdOx/alpha-Al2O3 and contains an alpha-Al2O3 carrier, a first single oxide layer, one or more mixed oxide layers, and an optional second single oxide layer; where A is an alkaline earth metal; where Z is the first rare earth element; where E is the second rare earth element; where D is a redox reagent or a third rare earth element; wherein the first rare earth element, the second rare earth element, and the third rare earth element, if present, are not the same; where a is 1.0; where b is from about 0.1 to about 10.0; where c is from about 0.1 to about 10.0; where d is from about 0 to about 10.0; where x balances the oxidation states. The first single oxide layer is characterized by the general formula Zb1Ox1, where b1 is from about 0.1 to about 10.0; and where x1 balances the oxidation states. One or more mixed oxide layers are characterized by the general formula Aa2Zb2Ec2Dd2Ox2, where a2 is 1.0; where b2 is from about 0.1 to about 10.0; where c2 is from about 0.1 to about 10.0; where d2 is from about 0 to about 10.0; where x2 balances the oxidation states. The formula AaZbEcDdOx and the formula Aa2Zb2Ec2Dd2Ox2 are different. The second single oxide layer is characterized by the general formula AO.
