FIELD: petroleum products quality control.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of quality control of petroleum products, in particular to the determination of the water content in light petroleum products. The method for determining the water content in an oil product is characterized by the fact that the test sample is shaken for one minute until the distribution of water is completely uniform throughout its volume, then it is filtered through dehydrated calcium chloride and filter paper in an amount sufficient to fill the cuvette, after repeated shaking it is poured into the cuvette the sample without filtration, the filtered and dehydrated sample is filled into the reference cuvette, then the monochromator of the spectrophotometer is set at 1000 nm, the reference and analyzed cuvettes are placed in the corresponding slots, the background signal for the reference cuvette is set to zero and the optical density of the analyzed is measured, the percentage of water content is found in the calibration graph of the dependence of water content on optical density.
EFFECT: acceleration of analysis time and reduction of sample volume.
