FIELD: analytical chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry and can be used for quantitation of aldehyde groups in oxidized polysaccharides, namely oxidized dextran. To this end, aqueous solutions of 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide and alkali are added to oxidized dextran. Control solution containing the same components, with exception of oxidized dextran, is prepared in parallel. Optical density of test and control solutions is recorded on spectrophotometer at 540 nm, amount of oxidized dextran is measured using calibration curve.

EFFECT: invention provides accurate and reproducible results for determination of oxidized dextran used as biocompatible and biodegradable carrier for medicaments.
