FIELD: neutron-shielding materials manufacture.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a technology for the manufacture of neutron-shielding materials and can be used for radiation protection of electronic devices, maintenance personnel and in civil engineering. The method for producing a composite boron-containing neutron-protective structural material includes preliminary mixing of powdered components with each other with the following content of ingredients, wt.%: polypropylene 20-24, powdered boron - the rest, while the degree of crystallinity is in the range of 0.43-0.52 and specific surface of particles in the range of 7-12 m2/g; mixing in a mechanical mixer in rotation mode with metal balls at a speed of not more than 20 rpm, with regular shaking with a repetition rate every 20-30 minutes; subsequent pressing of the resulting mixture at a temperature in the range of 200±5°C and a specific pressure of 250-300 MPa/cm2 and cooling.
EFFECT: invention provides an increase in the degree of neutron protection due to high filling with boron and obtaining increased structural density and mechanical strength, providing resistance to subsequent machining.
