FIELD: internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in internal combustion engines. A two-stroke diesel internal combustion engine with an additional steam stroke consists of a piston group, a crank mechanism, a fuel system, a gas distribution system with purge windows (12) and an exhaust valve (9). The engine has a water nozzle (7) located at the top of the cylinder (11) and an exhaust valve (9) in the cylinder head (1). An additional steam power stroke is carried out due to the injection of water converted into steam, and the performance of useful work in the form of pressure on the piston, and the return of the piston to its starting point due to the kinetic energy of the flywheel. The start of water injection into the cylinder through the water nozzle (7) and the end of water injection is carried out when the piston has not reached top dead center before the opening of the exhaust valve (9).
EFFECT: diesel fuel savings.
