FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: porous microspheres of metal oxide, their production methods, and their use are disclosed. Microspheres are suitable, for example, for being used as structural dyes. Porous microspheres are obtained by formation of a liquid dispersion of polymer nanoparticles and metal oxide. Then, liquid dispersion drops are formed, and liquid drops are dried to provide polymer matrix microspheres containing polymer nanospheres and metal oxide. Polymer nanospheres are removed from matrix microspheres to provide porous microspheres of metal oxide. Microspheres have an average diameter from 0.5 (±5%) to 100 (±5%) mcm, average porosity from 0.10 (±5%) to 0.80 (±5%), and an average pore diameter from 50 (±5%) to 999 (±5%) nm. Microspheres contain from 0.1 (±5%) to 40.0 (±5%) wt.% of one or more light absorbers per the total weight of microspheres. Liquid dispersion drops are formed using a vibrating nozzle. Liquid drops are water or oil drops.
EFFECT: obtainment of thermally and mechanically stable microspheres with high porosity, showing color visible for the human eye.
