SUBSTANCE: invention relates to video encoding. Proposed are a method and an apparatus containing a processing scheme for video decoding. The processing scheme decodes the encoded information of the chromaticity coding block (CB) from the bit stream of the encoded video. The encoded information indicates that the cross-component filter is applied to the chromaticity CB and additionally indicates the chromaticity sub-sampling format and the chromaticity sample type. The processing scheme determines the cross-component filter mask based on at least one from the chromaticity sub-sampling format and the chromaticity sample type. The processing scheme generates a first intermediate CB by applying a loop filter to the chromaticity CB and generates a second intermediate CB by applying a cross-component filter with the determined mask to the corresponding brightness CB. The processing scheme determines the filtered chromaticity CB based on the first intermediate CB and the second intermediate CB.
