FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to methods for producing iron by direct reduction, and can be used in the production of cast iron. Fine-grained iron ore with a carbonaceous reducing agent is fed into the rotary drum furnace, which is a highly reactive carbonizate obtained in a partial coal gasification unit. The mixture is heated by burning the combustible gas inside the furnace, obtained in the partial coal gasification unit, to a temperature of 900-1200°C, followed by cooling the material obtained in the drum furnace without air access and magnetic separation. Preferably, the carbonizate and combustible gas are fed into the rotary kiln without pre-cooling directly from the partial gasification unit.

EFFECT: shortening of the process time of reduction of iron oxides, intensification of the process of heating a mixture of iron ore raw materials with a carbonaceous reducing agent in the initial section of a rotary drum furnace, while obtaining an iron-containing material with a high degree of metallization.
