FIELD: automotive industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the automotive industry. The device for protecting the internal combustion engine against water hammer contains a system for intake and supply of air into the combustion chambers of the internal combustion engine, consisting of a series-connected air intake, an inlet air duct, an air filter housing with a filter element, an outlet air duct, a throttle valve, a receiver and intake manifolds. Inside, at the inlet of the inlet air duct, a pressure sensor is mounted, made with the possibility of detecting water in the air intake system. A drain pipe is mounted in the lower part of the inlet air duct in front of the air filter housing. An emergency air intake valve is mounted in front of the throttle valve at the outlet of the outlet pipe. In the inlet air duct between the drain pipe and the air filter housing and in the outlet air duct between the throttle valve and the emergency air intake damper, shut-off dampers are installed that block the air ducts upon a signal from the pressure sensor.
EFFECT: increased protection of the engine against water hammer.
