SUBSTANCE: inventions relates to the field of railway transport, in particular to wheelsets with variable gauge, as well as to railway vehicles equipped with similar wheelsets. The wheel pair contains an axle, a pair of wheels, a pair of axle clutches, an external clutch and a connecting mechanism. On the outer circumference of the first end of the axial coupling, a mounting base for the wheel is made. The second end has external slots, and the inner circumference has a non-self-locking thread. Pairs of threads of axial couplings have opposite directions. Second pairs of non-self-locking threads are made on the axle. The wheels are installed by means of couplings. The first raceway is made on the axle. The outer clutch is put on outside the axle. The second raceway is made on the inner circumference. The rolling element is installed between the tracks. The outer clutch is connected from the outside to the axis with the possibility of rotation. The internal splines are aligned with the splines of the axial couplings and are located at a predetermined distance from the second raceway. The coupling mechanism is installed between the axle and the outer clutch with the possibility of blocking the rotation of the clutch. With the mechanism unlocked, the wheels are pushed to rotate in synchrony to approach or move away from each other.

EFFECT: mechanism for changing the track width is simplified.
