APPARATUS FOR PROTECTING A METAL JET WHEN CASTING FROM THE TOP INTO A CYLINDRICAL CASTING MOULD Russian patent published in 2022 - IPC B22D7/12 

FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of metal casting. Apparatus for protecting a metal jet when casting from the top into a cylindrical casting mould is made of ceramic fibres in the form of a cover configured to be installed directly on the top end of the cylindrical casting mould, without additionally attaching the cover to the steel ladle. The apparatus comprises a cylindrical part (3), a horizontal shelf (1), and a conical part (2), forming an integral piece, and a supply line for the protective argon gas. Two holes are made in the conical part: an opening (4) for the supply of protective argon gas, made on the side surface of the conical part at a distance of 1/2 of the height of the generatrix; and a receiving hole (5) made in the centre of the conical part, configured to be coupled with the slide channel of the steel ladle.

EFFECT: metal jet and surface of the filled ingot are isolated from atmospheric air, and the sinkhead of the ingot is additionally warmed after the casting is complete.
