SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to psychiatry; it can be used for diagnostics of the presence of mental retardation linked to fragile X chromosome syndrome (hereinafter – FXS) in patients aged 3-19. Electroencephalogram (hereinafter – EEG) is registered using an international scheme of electrode placement of 10-20% with a combined ear electrode. Values of normalized relative spectral power in alpha-band of 8-13 Hz in T5 lead and natural logarithm of spectral power in alpha-band of 8-13 Hz in O1 lead are determined. Normalized coherency in alpha-band of 8-13 Hz between leads Cz and C3, normalized coherency in theta-band of 4-8 Hz between leads O2 and O1, and natural logarithm of the ratio of spectral power in alpha-band of 8-13 Hz to spectral power in beta-2-band of 20-30 Hz in Pz lead are also determined. A value of indicator Y is determined by the claimed formula. If the value of indicator Y is more than or equal to 0, the patient is related to a group with FXS. If the value of T is less than 0, the patient is not related to this group.

EFFECT: method provides for increase in the accuracy, reliability, and expansion of the arsenal of technical means of diagnostics of mental retardation linked to fragile X chromosome syndrome due to the use of objective EEG control means.
