FIELD: welding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of welding production, in particular to a method for ignition of an arc in manual arc welding, and can be used in manual arc welding with a coated electrode. The starting mode is provided by changing the parameters of the starting current at the moment the electrode touches the workpiece being welded. After ignition of the arc, the power source is switched to the working welding mode with a given current value, which is set before the ignition of the arc. The starting mode is provided by generating at least one series of current pulses. The number of pulses in a series is generated at least 30 with a pulse front rise rate of at least 300 A/ms, a current pulse duration of 2-50 milliseconds, and a pulse repetition period of 2-50 milliseconds. During the starting mode, the actual current and voltage that occur in each current impulse of the starting mode are measured. Upon reaching a voltage equal to the value of the voltage of the welding arc at a current whose value corresponds to the value set before ignition, the generation of pulses is stopped, transferring the operation of the power source to the working welding mode.
EFFECT: increasing the reliability of ignition of the welding arc, regardless of the contact area, pressing force, humidity and welding parameters.
