METHOD FOR ELIMINATION OF PALATOPHARYNGEAL INSUFFICIENCY AFTER VELOPHARYNGOPLASTY Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC A61B17/24 

FIELD: medicine; plastic reconstructive surgery.

SUBSTANCE: legs of the velopharyngeal flap are cut off. The cut velopharyngeal flap is dissected with a vertical cut on a side surface with transition to tissues of the soft palate and a sidewall of the pharynx. At the same time, two mucosal-muscular layers are formed: oral and nasal. Oral and nasal layers are sutured between each other and with tissues of the sidewall of the pharynx. At the same time, a single mucosal-muscular layer is formed, connecting all levels and layers of the palatopharyngeal ring: the soft palate, the sidewall of the pharynx, the posterior wall of the pharynx.

EFFECT: method allows for restoration of a closing mechanism of structures of the palatopharyngeal ring, involvement of all structures of the palatopharyngeal ring into the closing mechanism, elimination of nasality, and improvement of the quality of speech for up to 6 months.
