SUBSTANCE: applying protective coatings to equipment operating in aggressive environments. The method of rubberizing a metal container includes shot-blasting a metal surface, degreasing, applying a primer, making several layers of a rubber mixture, and vulcanizing. The layers are made from blanks in the form of strips of calendered rubber mixture. Glue is applied to the primed surface of the container, which is also applied to one of the blank sides, the first layer of rubber coating is formed, laying the blanks with the adhesive side on the metal surface covered with primer and glue. Mastic is prepared from a raw rubber mixture of the same composition with blanks, diluted in a solvent in a ratio of 25-30:70-75% by weight, respectively. Each subsequent layer of blanks is placed on the mastic applied to the surface of the previous layer until the total thickness of the rubber coating is at least 6 mm. The joints of the blanks in the layers are sealed. The layers are laid with the offset of the joints of the blanks in one layer relative to the joints of the blanks in the previous layer by 1/2-1/3 of the blank width. After laying all the layers, they are vulcanized with hot air or steam until the hardness of the rubber coating reaches 60-70 units by Shore.
