FIELD: processing video signals of the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard.

SUBSTANCE: method for decoding a video signal based on a reduced transform is proposed, which comprises the steps of: obtaining a transform index from the video signal indicating the transform kernels applied to the horizontal and vertical directions of the current block; determining an area in which a transform is applied to the current block based on the transform kernels indicated by the transform index and the size of the current block; extracting as zero the coefficients of the remaining area, different from the area to which the transform is applied in the current block; and performing an inverse transform on the area to which the transform is applied using the transform kernels indicated by the transform index.

EFFECT: conversion efficiency of a spatial domain video signal into a frequency domain signal along with higher accuracy prediction technology.
