FIELD: extracting precious metals.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to methods for extracting precious metals, such as gold or silver, from ore raw materials, enrichment waste, waste, including electronic waste. The method includes treating an article containing a precious metal or a composition containing a precious metal with an oxidizing agent composition under conditions suitable for oxidizing the precious metal present in said article or composition to obtain a composition comprising a salt of the precious metal. The resulting composition is brought into contact with the sorbent under conditions in which the sorbent is capable of adsorbing at least a portion of the precious metal salt to obtain a sorbent containing the adsorbed material. At least a portion of the precious metal is recovered from the sorbent containing the adsorbed material. The oxidizing agent composition includes at least one halide ion source and at least one electrophilic halogen source, wherein the electrophilic halogen source is selected from one or more groups consisting of hypochlorous acid, hypochlorous acid, hypobromite salts, hypochlorite salts, bromochlorodimethylhydantoin (BCDMH). Alternatively, the precious metal is recovered from the precious metal salt composition by chemical reduction, electrochemical reduction and/or chemical precipitation.
