FIELD: optimizing oil prospecting.

SUBSTANCE: method including an assessment of prospects for oil and gas potential of regional and local objects on the basis of seismic exploration. Known deposits are ranked by depth. The stepwise nature of the distribution of deposits is identified. Then the depths of the identified steps are determined, the seismic profiles are interpreted taking into account the identified depth characteristic of the given territory. When identifying structural and non-structural traps on seismic profiles within the identified depths, the object is recommended for exploratory drilling.

EFFECT: identifying specific depths on the territories where seismic exploration has been carried out at which it is possible to detect hydrocarbon deposits when seismic exploration at these depths identifies conditions for preserving hydrocarbon deposits.
