FIELD: composite structures.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a sound-absorbing or acoustic composite structure that can be used for ceilings, including sloped ceilings, and walls within residential buildings. A structure comprising a rigid partition extending across the entire wall or ceiling, the NRC value of the partition being 0.10 or less when measured from the space-facing side of the partition, a porous sound-absorbing layer in contact with or closely adjacent to that facing the said space side of the partition wall, an assembly of perforated drywall sheets covering the sound absorbing layer and attached to the partition wall, the perforated drywall being reinforced on each side with a non-woven porous scrim, with the adjacent edges of the sides of the drywall panels facing the occupied space and containing the appropriate scrim covered with tape and patching material seams, wherein the respective canvas and grout material are covered with an acoustically transparent coating, wherein the combination of partition, sound-absorbing layer, canvas-reinforced perforated gypsum boards and coating exhibits NRC values of at least 0.75 when measured from the side facing the occupied space.
