FIELD: power plants.

SUBSTANCE: method of operating a power plant by converting the internal energy of combustion of diesel fuel in a prime mover mechanically connected to an electric generator into electrical energy of a standard frequency and voltage and supplying it to consumers in a normal power consumption mode. In this case, in the event of a discharge of the storage battery, the storage battery and the capacitor bank are recharged from the power generator by means of a frequency and voltage converter. When operating at partial load, the speed of the prime mover is reduced, while one part of the consumers is provided with electricity of a standard frequency from the converter, and the second part is provided with electricity of a reduced frequency from a synchronous generator. In case of long-term overloads, consumers are supplied with electric power of standard frequency simultaneously from the converter and the generator connected in parallel. At low load and idling modes, the engine is stopped and the consumers are supplied with power from the converter, and when the battery is discharged, the engine is started for the period of battery charging from the generator through the converter. In power supply of consumers that requires or allows alternating current frequency, power is supplied to one part of consumers from the generator in the frequency range below the nominal and/or the second part of the consumers from the converter in the frequency range both lower and higher than the standard one, while the converter and/or generator work autonomously. In case of frequency reversible start of the engine of the power plant, power is supplied with increasing frequency from the battery through the frequency converter to the generator. A device that implements the method is disclosed.
