FIELD: fibre optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to optical reflectometry for distributed measurements of various physical characteristics (temperature or mechanical strain) along the length of an optical fibre. The technical solution uses a radiation source with optical frequency variability, which is designed to generate linearly polarized optical radiation with stepped optical frequency variability in successive modes of the radiation source resonator. In addition, to measure parameters of inhomogeneities of the refractive index along the optical fibre, a reflectogram is created by plotting the dependence of the reflection coefficient of inhomogeneities of the refractive index on the longitudinal coordinate along the measuring fibre line by calculating the average value of the second degree of the Fourier transform of the spectral dependence for two polarization components of the interference optical radiation.
EFFECT: increase in the speed of operation, the signal-to-noise ratio, the reliability and stability of operation.
