FIELD: data coding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods and devices for coding and decoding three-dimensional data. The technical result is to optimize the coding and decoding of three-dimensional data. The method is used to form an N-ary tree structure of 3D points included in 3D data, wherein n is an integer greater than or equal to 2; code the first parameter; when the first parameter specifies the first value, (i) select a group of N groups according to the population states of neighbouring nodes adjacent to the current node and located inside or outside the parent node of the current node, (ii) select contexts based on the selected group, and (iii) perform arithmetic coding for the current node using the selected contexts, with the neighbouring nodes and the current node included in the mentioned N-ary tree structure, the filling states of the neighbouring nodes, each of which indicates whether the corresponding one of the neighbouring nodes includes a three-dimensional point, while the neighbouring nodes included in the N-ary tree structure at the same level as the current node; and when the first parameter specifies a second value different from the first value, (i) select a group from M groups according to the fill states of neighbouring nodes adjacent to the current node and located inside the current node's parent node, where M is an integer other than N, (ii) select contexts based on the selected group, and (iii) perform arithmetic coding for the current node using the selected contexts.
