METHOD OF MODELING BRAIN DEATH IN AN EXPERIMENT Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC G09B23/28

Abstract RU 2798902 C1

FIELD: medicine, namely to models for pathophysiology, resuscitation and transplantation.

SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for experimental modeling of brain death. The method involves groping the anesthetized animal for protuberantia occipitalis externa and the spinous process of the second cervical vertebra, and in the middle of the distance between them, a 22 G needle with a mandrel is injected into the soft tissues. Next, the needle is directed obliquely upward at an angle of 45°, move inward, and along the scales of the occipital bone, membrana atlantooccipitalis is pierced, falling into the cisterna magna. The needle is directed horizontally, advanced into the cranial cavity to its full length and connected to a mechanical tonometer. Atmospheric air is pumped into the cranial cavity until a pressure equal to the mean arterial pressure is reached. The exposure time of the increased pressure is 5 minutes.

EFFECT: method provides simplification of technical execution, increase of reproducibility and profitability of the model due to minimally invasive execution technique, no need to use special surgical instruments and the need to insert a balloon catheter into the cranial cavity.
