FIELD: polymers.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to antacids and to a method of their use, as well as to improved polymer compositions containing antacids, and products formed from the polymer composition. A method of neutralizing acidic impurities in a polymer comprises bringing the polymer into contact with an amount of amorphous sodium magnesium aluminosilicate, the said polymer being a polyolefin, and the said amount of amorphous sodium magnesium aluminosilicate in the polymer ranging from about 0.005 wt. % to about 2.0 wt. % polymer. The invention also relates to a method of reducing the corrosivity of a polymer, as well as to a polymer composition having reduced corrosivity and to an article made from a polymer composition with reduced corrosivity.
EFFECT: improving properties, such as reduced corrosion activity and improved color stability, as well as improved transparency and excellent stability of the melt flow rate (MFR) in polymer compositions, such as polyolefin polymer compositions, in which amorphous aluminum silicate is used as an antacid.
