FIELD: bioinformatics.
SUBSTANCE: system, method and device are proposed for performing bioinformatics analysis on genome sequencing data. In particular, a genomic analysis platform is provided for executing a sequence analysis conveyor. The genomic analysis platform comprises one or more first integrated circuits, each of which forms a central processing unit (CPU) that is responsive to one or more software algorithms that are configured to instruct the CPU to execute the first set of genomic processing steps of the sequence analysis conveyor. In addition, a second integrated circuit is also provided that forms a field programmable gate array (FPGA), the FPGA being configurable by firmware to provide a set of hard-wired digital logic circuits that are interconnected by a plurality of physical interconnects to perform a second set of genomic processing steps for sequence analysis conveyor, with a set of hard-wired digital circuits of each FPGA arranged as a set of processing engines to perform a second set of genomic processing steps. Shared memory is also provided. The invention expands the range of tools for the implementation of bioinformatic protocols.
