SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to an expandable vinyl aromatic polymer composition having improved mechanical and insulating properties, which comprises: d) from 60% to 96% wt. The present invention relates to the group of inventions: an expandable vinyl aromatic polymer composition, a continuous bulk process for producing an expandable vinyl aromatic polymer composition, and an expanded product. Expandable vinyl aromatic polymer composition comprises: 60-96% wt. vinyl aromatic polymer (a); 3-10% wt. expanding agent (b); 1-30% wt. vinylaromatic copolymer (c), comprising from 1 to 10% wt. rubber component as a dispersed phase. A continuous bulk process for producing an expandable vinyl aromatic polymer composition includes the following steps: mixing the vinyl aromatic polymer (a) and the vinyl aromatic copolymer (c) in the form of granules, powdered or pre-melted; optionally, if melting has not yet occurred, bringing the polymer mixture to a temperature higher than or equal to the melting point of the vinyl aromatic polymer (a) and copolymer (c); including at least one expanding agent (b) in the molten polymer mixture forming the vinyl aromatic polymer composition; mixing the polymer composition thus obtained using static or dynamic mixing elements; sending the polymer composition obtained after mixing to the matrix plate with cutting under pressure.

EFFECT: making an expandable vinyl aromatic polymer composition with improved mechanical and thermal insulation properties, its production method, as well as products that can be obtained from such a composition.
