FIELD: renewable starting materials production.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for producing renewable starting materials for producing polymers, the methods comprising obtaining a lactone derivative from CO2 according to the following reaction

and processing the CO2 derived lactone to form a renewable starting material, wherein the processing of the CO2 derived lactone comprises selectively hydrogenating the CO2 derived lactone to form a hydrogenated CO2 lactone derivative according to the following reaction:

Further, the hydrogenated derivative from CO2 lactone is processed using systems of homogeneous and heterogeneous hydrogenation, alkene metathesis. The process may also include alkoxycarbonylation of the CO2 derivative of the lactone to form a diester and hydrogenation of the diester.
EFFECT: methods have been developed for the synthesis of starting materials for the production of polymers, including renewable polymers, from renewable resources such as CO2 in high yields.
