SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to monitor the water surface of water areas in order to detect oil films. A method for detecting oil films on a water surface is claimed, in which the axes of the emitting and receiving optical systems of the lidar are oriented along the normal to the plane of the water surface in a calm state, multibeam laser pulsed radiation is formed, and the water surface is irradiated with signals within a set of M laser beams, where M is odd and , for each formed beam, the reflected signal is received and optically filtered, the optical signal is converted into an electrical signal, an analogue-to-digital conversion is performed, and the power reflection coefficient is calculated. A temperature and humidity sensor is installed at the lidar installation site, air temperature and humidity are measured, and the power value of the received optical signals is corrected. The range and step of changing the thickness of the oil film to be detected are set, the dependence of the reflection coefficient is calculated based on the air/oil/water interface in terms of power depending on the angle of irradiation and oil film thickness . The power reflection coefficient values obtained in one probing cycle are averaged for laser beams with the same inclination angles relative to the normal, the oil film detection index is calculated.

EFFECT: taking into account the dependence of the reflection coefficient of electromagnetic waves on the air/oil/water interface on the angle of exposure and film thickness when performing detection.
