FIELD: measuring equipment, possible use for operative detection of oil and oil product spills in seas and inland water bodies.
SUBSTANCE: method for remotely finding oil spills on water surface includes probing of subject water surface by impulse optical beam at two wavelengths, registration of radiation, reflected from water surface, and analysis of ratio of powers of laser signals, received from subject water surface, to appropriate powers of laser signals, received from clean water surface. Presence of oil film on water surface is detected on basis of simultaneous fulfillment of two ratios: P(λ1)>Pw(λ2) or P(λ2)>Pw(λ2), N>1, where λ1, λ2 - probing wavelengths; P(λ1,2), Pw(λ1,2) - laser signal powers at wavelengths λ1, λ2, received from subject water surface or clean water surface.
EFFECT: increased trustworthiness of detection of oil spills on water surface.
