FIELD: hydraulic engineering.

SUBSTANCE: in this method of erecting a retaining wall, including construction of a coastal lining using stepped gabion mattresses with drainage devices located one above the other, the main part of the coastal lining that starts with the fourth row of gabion mattresses is made of the same stepped stacked gabion mattresses 1 with drainage devices and flexible slabs 5 made of fiberglass and polymeric materials reinforcing the soil mass. Flexible reinforcing plates 5 are made of fiberglass meshes and three-dimensional geogrids tied on top of them, and the free parts of the meshes passing along the base of the mattresses 1 are attached to them over their entire area. Flexible slabs 5 are cut step-wise into the collapsible soil mass of the slope along its entire height overlapping the line of potential collapse of the earth mass. Gabion mattresses 1 in all the rows are made of alternating geomats and perforated drainage pipes, passing in two lines in the middle of them, which are wrapped in a gabion mesh to give a prismatic shape to gabion mattresses 1. The very first row of 8 gabion mattresses 1 at the base of the coastal lining is made with flexible slab 5 located on the outside along the channel part of the river in the form of apron 9, which is loaded with gravel and pebbles from above. Stability of the collapsing slope is ensured, as well as interception and removal of the seepage flow from the coastal soil mass.

EFFECT: engineering protection of coastal zones against potential collapse and erosion in flat and foothill, hard-to-reach areas, when the height of the collapsing coastal slope does not exceed 10-15 metres.
