FIELD: ice cover strengthening.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the construction of polar stations, runways, ice crossings for the passage of heavy equipment. The method for strengthening the natural ice cover includes increasing its thickness by flooding ice blocks into a window formed by cutting slots in the natural ice cover along the perimeter of the blocks. The thickness is increased in cycles, in each of which the blocks are flooded to a depth equal to the thickness of the natural ice cover, and fixed to it, followed by freezing of the water that fills the window above the flooded blocks. After cutting slots in the natural ice cover along the perimeter of the base ice blocks, reinforcing cages are installed on them to form two-layer sections, which are flooded to a depth equal to the thickness of the natural ice cover and frozen to obtain a reinforced ice cover. In the next cycle of increasing the thickness of the ice cover, slots are cut to form prefabricated two-layer reinforced blocks.
EFFECT: increase in the bearing capacity of the ice cover by increasing its crack resistance and deflection strength.
