FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method for determining the state of a capacitive voltage converter (50), which on its primary side comprises a capacitive voltage divider with a first capacitor (C1) and a second capacitor (C2). The first capacitor (C1) has a high voltage lead (HV) for connection to the high voltage (60) and the second capacitor (C2) has a ground lead (NHF). The first resonant frequency (ωe) is determined by first several short circuit impedance measurements at different frequencies on the secondary side of the capacitive voltage converter (50) while the high voltage terminal (HV) is connected to ground (70). The second resonant frequency (ω2) is determined by several second measurements of the short circuit impedance at different frequencies on the secondary side of the capacitive voltage converter (50) while the high voltage output (HV) is open. The ratio (KC) of the capacitances of the capacitive voltage divider (50) is determined as a function of the first resonant frequency (ωe) and the second resonant frequency (ω2).
EFFECT: increased sensitivity of monitoring the dynamics of changes in capacitance over time, the so-called "Trending", which helps to prevent an unrecoverable failure of the capacitive voltage converter.
