FIELD: nutrition.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of nutrition of infants and young children. The following is proposed: the use of a fermented composition and indigestible oligosaccharides for the manufacture of a food composition that is at least partially fermented by lactic acid producing bacteria and contains indigestible oligosaccharides for the treatment and/or prevention of rotavirus infection or diarrhea caused by rotavirus in an infant or young child. Indigestible oligosaccharides in the composition of the nutritional composition are selected from the group consisting of fructooligosaccharides, indigestible dextrins, galactooligosaccharides, xylooligosaccharides, arabinooligosaccharides, arabinogalactooligosaccharides, glucooligosaccharides, gentiooligosaccharides, glucomannooligosaccharides, galactomannooligosaccharides, mannanoligosaccharides, isomaltooligosaccharides, nigerooligosaccharides, glucomannooligosaccharides, chitooligosaccharides, soy oligosaccharides, sialyloligosaccharides, and fucooligosaccharides, and mixtures thereof. The food composition of the above composition is used to reduce the incidence, severity and duration of diarrhea caused by rotavirus or rotaviral infection, as well as to prevent rotavirus-induced slow growth and development or poor growth and development, increase blocking of rotavirus particles, reduce rotavirus load and/or increase in intestinal barrier function in rotavirus infection in an infant or a young child.

EFFECT: nutritional composition exhibits a synergistic effect when the fermented composition with indigestible oligosaccharides is used for the treatment and/or prevention of rotavirus infection or diarrhea caused by rotavirus in an infant or a young child.
