SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a fermented infant formula or subsequent baby formula. Infant formula or subsequent baby formula contains from 0.5 to 20 % by weight of indigestible oligosaccharides in terms of the dry weight of infant formula or subsequent baby formula and from 0.25 to 1.5 % by weight of the total amount of lactate and lactic acid, based on the dry weight of infant formula or subsequent baby formula. Total amount of L-lactic acid and L-lactate is more than 50% by weight, based on the total amount of lactic acid and lactate.
EFFECT: use of a fermented ingredient and indigestible oligosaccharides in the production of infant formula or subsequent baby formula is suggested for use in reducing the incidence of colic in a baby, reducing the duration of screaming and reducing attacks of screaming in infants.
