FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the chemical processing of titanium-containing raw materials, in particular perovskite, to obtain artificial rutile used in the production of titanium sponge, as well as oxide compounds of titanium and rare metals. Processing of the perovskite concentrate includes treating the concentrate with nitric acid in an autoclave to obtain a suspension, filtering the suspension to separate a titanium-containing precipitate, and washing the precipitate to obtain a wash solution and a washed precipitate. Before treatment with nitric acid, the concentrate is crushed to a particle size of not more than 70 microns. Processing of crushed concentrate with nitric acid is carried out at acid concentration of 45-55% and ratio of mass of concentrate to volume of acid equal to 1:3.0-4.5. Washing of the precipitate is carried out in two stages, first with a 4-7% solution of nitric acid, and then with water to obtain a combined washing solution. The washed precipitate is calcined at a temperature of 500-700°C to obtain a titanium-containing product in the form of artificial rutile.
EFFECT: method allows to improve the quality of the resulting product by reducing the content of impurities, as well as improve environmental friendliness by reducing the amount of acidic waste.
